first fruit ...

A close up of a peach bud. :) This was taken in South Carolina with a Nikon CoolPix S630 digital camera. Uncertain if it matters or not but I took this picture last spring. Have not previously submitted it.

Breadwinner

I took this picture of Atlantic Puffin on the Machias Seal island off the Maine coast.
When hunting, Puffins may collect several small fish, such as herring, sprats and sand eels, zooplankton, crustaceans and mollusks. The tongue is used to hold the fish against spines in the palate, leaving the bill free to open to catch more fish. The fish, which may number up to twelve, are held in the bill with the heads facing in alternate directions.

Techs: Canon EOS 5D with Canon EF 100-400/4.5-5.6 L IS USM at 400 mm, ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/500.
