i used to bird watch when i lived at the farm. we had bird feeders and we feed them on a regular basis! :)
we had blue jays, cardinals, woodpeckers, wrens, humming birds and i even watched the chipmunks play at the pile of woods. and realized they can not swim, to my dismay when i found one of them died in a bucket half full of water.
We tried to feed them, but squirrels eat everything from the feeder, and we don't like to attract squirrels in our backyard, they try to get in the house chewing the holes in the vent grids:) But we have holly trees with berries, and bath with water for them, so birds are happy:) This picture, though, was made in the wild, not in backyard.
Yes, I know each and everyone from your list:) Hummingbirds are pretty rare guests here, I made a picture of it only once. And chipmunks... When we had hurricane Floyd years ago, we didn't see them around for several years, I guess most of them died in the flood, so I'm not surprised by your story. Fortunately it wasn't the case with hurricane Irene last year, we still see a lot of them.

That was exactly what my friend told me when I was kinda upset the chipmunk died..
